Pulau Kelapa is a cultural hotspot of the One Thousand Island population and a home to +1000 households, rich with fishing traditions passed down from generation to generation and it’s a part of the Thousand Islands National Park, so there are also nature reserves and marine protected areas around the island, making it an attractive location for ecotourism.

Their economy is largely based on fishing, with some small-scale aquaculture. Unfortunately, these communities encountered some problems that threatened their economy and livelihood such as access to clean water and enough ice to store and distribute their fish catches to buyers freshly.
